1. Who We Are

Saffa Score is a translation service. We interpret South African credit history into a format that is legible to a US audience, for South Africans relocating to or already living in the United States. We are not a credit bureau, we do not generate or originate credit data, and we do not extend credit. Our purpose is to help members of the SA diaspora communicate an existing credit history across borders — nothing more.

Because our users are frequently relocating internationally, and because the source data we translate originates in South Africa, we process personal information in accordance with POPIA, South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, with that cross-border, diaspora-facing intent reflected throughout this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We collect your email address, ID number, the credit report PDF you upload, payment references, and technical data such as IP address and browser information.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to manage your account, generate your report, process payments, and send transactional emails, and to meet our obligations under POPIA. We do not sell your information to third parties.

4. Lawful Basis

We process your personal information on the basis of your explicit consent, given when you create an account and upload your report.

5. Data Storage

Your data is encrypted using AES-256 and stored on secure encrypted cloud infrastructure. Reports are retained for 180 days.

6. Your POPIA Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you, and to withdraw your consent at any time. Correction rights apply only to personal data we hold directly (email and account details) — not to the underlying credit bureau data in your uploaded report; disputes about that data should be directed to the relevant credit bureau. You may also lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator.

7. Third-Party Services

We rely on the following third parties to operate the service:

• Secure encrypted cloud infrastructure — hosting and database storage
• Resend — transactional email delivery
• PayFast — payment processing (no card data passes through our servers)
• Third-party AI processing partners — PDF extraction and translation (data not used to train AI models under our agreements)

8. Cookies

We use session cookies only, required to keep you logged in. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
